چکیده

Many companies are creating mterdisciplmary concurrent engineering teams to collaborate on product development projects from dispersed locations. The problems these companies face stem from the lack of understanding of technical, organizational, and procedural requirements for such activities to take place effectively. This paper proposes an integrated conceptual model of the product life cycle, and a virtual collaborative environment to support concurrent engineering. The product life cycle model features the life cycle process itself, but also highlights the corresponding people and technology required for each phase. The virtual collaborative environment framework models the activities that occur, and the underlying infrastructure that must be present for collaboration to be effective. A simple prototype of the model is implemented, and an exploratory study is conducted to gain insight into the issues of concurrent engineering in a virtual collaborative environment, and to identify future research directions.

Using a Virtual Reality Environment to Simulate the Pushing of Cylindrical Nanoparticles

With the rise in the use of AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), we have witnessed a growing use of atomic microscope based nanorobots in the precise displacement of various particles. There are certain limitations to the application of nanorobots in the moving of nanoparticles. One of the most important of these limitations is the lack of an appropriate image feedback concurrent with the displaci...

Internet-Based Design Visualization for Layered Manufacturing

When considering the use of layered manufacturing (LM), there are many issues a designer has to address for handling a stereolithography tessellation language (STL) model, the de facto standard for LM. In this paper, we propose an Internet-based design visualization tool for decision support when optimizing the LM process in support of a highly interactive and collaborative virtual environment ...

A proposal for collaborative virtual environments architecture using internet patterns

Most of the problems related to Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVE) involve communication support, which should allow any update to the interface to be quickly noticed by other users. To minimize these difficulties, this paper proposes architecture for the communication support on CVE. The goal is to allow the developer not to worry so much about the communication layer during the developm...
